We've been overwhelmed by the incredible interest in the new San Francisco HTML5 User Group! There have been some great meeting topic suggestions, but we thought it would be best to start with an introduction. In this first HTML5 user group meeting, HTML5 trainer Peter Lubbers--co-organizer of the SF HTML5 User Group and co-author of the book Pro HTML5 Programming--will give you a high-level overview of HTML5. Topics include:

- WHATWG and W3C specifications

Dan DoyonThis is second time I have seen Peter, I thought he did better job this time. There is obviously quite a bit to cover and it seems each section could be one or more meetups. He seems to have very broad exposure to most of the key elements. I've decided not to pursue learning Silverlight based on what he's presented. HTML5/CSS3 seems to be the hot combo. It will be quite interesting to see what novel ideas come out. I feel like this is the next internet "gold rush".

RicIt was a GREAT evening. Good presentation. 2 points for improvement- better/louder mic system, and when you are going to display code in an editor please beforehand increase the font size so that it is actually readable to those more than 3 rows back.
